Happy Halloween!

As Oscar was saying last night, "Trick or treat!                BOO!"
I think he got a lot of people with that one. But he also said "Thank you" after selecting his candy.

We only had three groups come to our house, and one child told Eric "Thank you sir". Eric heard, as they made the rounds, that everyone goes to trunk-or-treat events here, thinking that they're safer. And given the total absence of sidewalks, that does make some sense.

But our boys had very reflective costumes, and we live in a secluded neighborhood, so they did just great. Everyone was happy to have someone to give their candy to.

We missed the parade at Oscar's school - there were so many notices in the stack of papers they bring home every day about "Book character day," as they called it, but only one piece of paper that said there would be a parade at 8. So that paper was lost. We did make the parade and trick-or-treating at the daycare, which strongly resembled what happened for 4th of July.

Pristine robot costumes, with dials and levers and aluminum flashing tape.

The daycare parade. John and Oscar went to bed in their Halloween costumes from last year, the bear and elephant vests. They haven't worn them in about...a year, and that night they suddenly remembered about them. And of course that is what John wanted to wear. Even though he had insisted the day before on a butterfly costume, which I stayed up wayyy too late making. That is probably exactly why he had to wear the bear costume, actually. So classic!

Edie wore the butterfly costume instead, and looked very cute when she flapped the wings. Most of the other infants are wearing costumes from Wizard of Oz. Notice the one sitting behind Edie with a ferocious weapon! He kept hitting her head with it!

Back inside - each class made rounds to the other classrooms, and the teachers handed out candy. It was total chaos. The teachers were so busy with candy monitoring that they stopped watching their class, so the kids were being as wicked as they could. When the first group came to the three-year-olds classroom, everyone decided they had to get in on the candy action and swarmed the teachers.

Except John, and this rabbit fairy, who was psyched to pose for pictures.

John showed off his candy bag, and then all the other children swarmed up to show us their bags too.

Edie is the only happy one of the infants right here, but as soon as Eric left to help shepherd the three-year-olds, Edie started crying and the other babies started smiling - the Munchkin started bopping her real good with his lollipop again! She is far from an infant now, but there are no spots in the one-year-olds classroom. There probably won't be any spots until June!

Here they are, attired for the evening! John deigned to wear the butterfly costume after all! I constructed it with the stapler since Eric used up all the hot glue on the robot buttons. It turned out silicone adhesive worked just great to adhere cardboard to cardboard, but oh well - staples did the trick for me!

And we can't forget the pumpkins! Carved last week, with the help of some power tools.

Phew! Don't have to do that again for a whole year! Next time Edie will go out with them, probably walking on her own two legs, and it will probably have snowed already in Michigan...warm vest costumes might be just the thing.
